These are photo's of my blocked artery before & after my procedure

WHY THIS MESSAGE

After suffering a few indigestion or heartburn pains, I decided to see my doctor.

I was referred to a heart specialist for a stress test and it turned out I’d been suffering angina attacks. This happens when your heart doesn’t get enough oxygen and blood from your Coronary Arteries.

I wasn’t surprised with my results at the time, as I often had intense and suffocative pain. My memory was bad. I had very restless legs each night, and would wake with numb fingers in the mornings. I worried about it constantly, but I never alerted anyone. I didn’t want anyone to worry about me, because my loved ones were having enough health and financial problems themselves.

Well not long after I saw the heart surgeon, I found myself lying on an operating table, having an Angiogram. I was awake through the procedure, but I felt no pain at all. I was watching it happen on the screen next to me. There it was, my right coronary artery was 99% blocked. The surgeon said right there and then, I was only days away from having a heart attack or stroke. At the time I just laid there numb to what he said, my only thoughts, were my loving Family and Friends.  When I think of my husband of only one year, three loving and caring children, plus our gorgeous little one year old granddaughter, that I look after one day a week. I feel awful knowing how close I came to losing them all. Probably worst still, thinking of how my loved ones would feel to lose me. The pain and sadness I could have caused made me stop and to really think of a way to help myself, and others, in an Emergency, in case anything like this ever happens again.

The operation only took an hour and I felt better almost immediately, but my mind was fixed, on thinking of a simple and easy way for anyone to remember CPR. Then to know exactly what to do in an emergency, without being frightened, or worried to do so. I wanted to write a jingle that was short, catchy and something entertaining, with all the Important steps covered to help in saving a life, especially a loved one when there is no-one else around but You. So I sat and wrote a song so children as young as 2 can sing along to. A tune they would recognise and enjoy.

My granddaughter is three years old now and she knows most of the words of my DR’S ABC, and she knows how to navigate my mobile phone to make an emergency call, which you can do without having to unlock it. Also anyone can dial an emergency number from a home phone if there is one. I just think it is better to be safe than sorry. That’s why I taught my granddaughter from the age of 1yr, to sing and dance to my important message. Well, just in case I ever need help again, and she’s the only one there for me.

Parents can prepare their young children to act in an emergency, to be confident and not frightened, even if they only remember the first 3 steps: D-R-S, this will give the casualty at least a 50% better chance of survival.

My second Program includes not only the words and illustrations it’s a colouring-in book too. This way I feel the information can be absorbed even easier for any age group. The book with accompanying music CD, will be a great benefit for every household, from infants right through to the elderly.  As we the parent, grandparent or whoever is reading and interacting with the child, will learn my message almost immediately because of its simple and cute jingle. Wouldn’t it be wonderful in the near future if *EVERYONE CAN SAVE A LIFE, YOU AND ME!*
